Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; make and female he created them.”
How would you do life differently if you truly believed that every person is implanted with the face and image of God?
This question shakes me to my core. Because honestly, there are times when I don’t do a good job of this. I have worked really hard at this but still there are times when I fall short. Mess with me, no problem. Mess with my kids, we have problem. But God’s Word tell me that everyone, even people that mess with my kids, are made in the image of God. You get the point, that doesn’t mean we should allow bad behavior. But it does mean we should handle it differently than most of us do.
I have been in some pretty crazy circumstances. I have met some, let’s just say, interesting people. But I can tell you first hand that behind the hard image or false fronts, are some really great souls. And this applies to the suburbs as much as the streets.
When we take this verse to heart, everything changes. Think about how things would change in our community. Think about how things would change with:
- Leverage and influence
- Unemployment and underemployment
- Prison reform
- Competition with neighbors
- Wealth and plenty
Today, many run from the very people Jesus ran towards. Let’s change. And let’s hard work on this. And let’s put this in the front of our brain, the fact, that every person bears the image of God. If we do this, our community will change and people will take notice. What a set up for us to then share the Good News of Jesus Christ!
