The world changed when 12 simple, ordinary men said to Jesus, “Yes, I’m in.”
Today, the same question is on us. Are we in or out? We only have those two options. But today, American Christians especially, want to add a third option which is the “Kinda”option. It looks like this:
- I’m in as long as this following thing doesn’t get too personal
- I’m in as long as it’s comfortable
- I’m in if it’s convenient
- I’m in up to a point
- I’m in if there is a close parking spot, nice weather..but not too nice and the church has me out in less than one hour and you entertain me and my kids with some nice programs
Jesus knew that kinda option would be an issue so He addressed it and took it away. Remember in Luke 9 when a man said he would follow Jesus but first let him go bury his father? Jesus response is shocking in verse 60 when He said, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the Kingdom of God.” There is no kinda option here.
So Jesus is asking you and I today the very same question He asked His very first followers some two thousand years ago: Are you in or out…no conditions, no negotiations, no comfortable, no causal, no kinda options available.
In or out?
