Awhile ago, I came across the One Word concept by Jon Gordon. Every year at this time, close to 90% of people set New Years resolutions. In just 30 days, almost half of those resolutions will fail. There are many reasons for the high percentage of failure but one of those key reasons is that people don’t remember them. New Years resolutions don’t stick. So Gordon teaches a different method called One Word.
The teaching is very simple. Pick One Word for the entire year to focus on. Now, behind the word there is a process. And the process, including the WHY behind the word, can be as powerful, if not more powerful than the word itself. Just as in may life lessons, the journey can be more impacting than the destination. You can pick up his book to read about the details of the process including:
- Looking IN, prepare your heart
- Looking UP, ask the Lord for your word
- Looking OUT, live out your word daily
My word for 2015 is PRAY.
As we start this new church, ACF Lake Travis, prayer is my lifeline. I’m in a state of being totally reliant on the Lord because being honest, I’m way over my head. The reason I’m over my head is because I’m asking for the Lord to do things that seem silly to society. When you pray BIG, you look foolish to others. But I’m comfortable in that posture of dependancy. For many, they are very uncomfortable being dependent. They demand the comfort of control. Not me. I prefer being on my knees before the Lord dependent on Him coming through.
So this year, my focus in on PRAYER. I have learned that there is a huge difference in just “saying prayers” and praying. I want to pray, not just say prayers. I want our new church to be a praying church. And God will honor our prayers.
Lord, my word for 2015 is PRAY. I want to pray and not just say prayers. I pray that you move in Lake Travis in a way that is so impacting that the only possible explanation is that YOU did this…where we experienced first hand a movement of God in our community.
In Jesus Name.
